When college stress creeps up on people, many get hit hard. So here are 5 ways to deal with it.
College stress does hit everyone at some point and it’s important to remember that most of it is over grades. At the end of the day, it’s all about getting your degree because that is what most employers look at. Having that said, use these tips to help you stay strong and stay focused.
1. Regulate Sleep
The best thing that you can do is regulate all of your sleep. Firstly starting by setting a bedtime for yourself. If you’re never getting enough sleep then go to bed early.
Set a time to turn off all technology at a specific time like 9:30. 9:30-10 take a shower and do anything else that’s part of your routine.
After that just go to sleep and see how much better you feel in the morning. Eating peanut butter before bedtime also increases the deep sleep and decreases that “I feel like crap” feeling in the morning.
Hitting the gym is a great way to get rid of tension. You start lifting, you start feeling good and you get that adrenaline flowing through your body. Working out relieves stress by stimulating dopamine. On top of that you also clear up your head from the daily mess and information. Add some good music to that and you’ve got yourself a great combination.
3. Running Outside
If you are not a gym person (which is totally understandable) then jogging outside is the next best thing. You also get the heart racing and blood flowing which not only stimulates dopamine (good feeling) but helps you clear your head. If the weather is good then definitely go out for a run with some music pumping in your ears. Add a cold shower afterwards and you just might return to your normal self again.
4. Reading Fiction
Flipping through a book about other worlds, distant lands and absurd realities is a great way to forget about deadlines and just unwind. Reading before bedtime stimulates your imagination while relaxing your mind at the same time so that you drift more peacefully into your dream state.
It’s a nice break from all the required reading you have to do. You don’t have to worry about analyzing sentence structure or remember key points for an exam. Just flip through the pages and let your mind wander.
5. Playing Video Games
Believe it or not, gaming is actually one of the best ways to get rid of stress. When you get home from a long day or you just finished a big project, escaping into a virtual world is a great way to unplug. The more fantasy there is the better.
If you’re low on cash there are ways to buy cheap video games. Or you can just borrow some from a friend. Even playing a simple online games every now and then can help you relax.
Those are the top 5 ways to relieve stress. This applies not only if you’re in college but just in your everyday life as well. If you have any other ways or unique methods, leave that knowledge in comments for everyone to read.
