Valentine’s Day Ideas for College Students

Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone! Do you still have no idea what you’re going to do for that special someone? Do you feel that what you have planned isn’t creative or romantic enough? Don’t worry, that’s what we’re here for! Here are a few fun, cheap ideas you may want to consider.

Make a Playlist/Mixtape

I know this one might seem a little cheesy but admit it, you all would love this. By making a playlist or mixtape, you’re giving that special someone a collection of every song that reminds you of them and your relationship. There’s something especially vulnerable and intimate about sharing with your boyfriend and girlfriend what gets you thinking of them. It should go without saying that this should just be a cute little gift though. Don’t try to use this as a way to bypass an actual date.

Visit a Scenic Spot

If you live in a place up north, this may require you to be a little creative. The worst thing about having Valentine’s Day in February is the weather. It’s hard to have a picnic or go hiking if there’s snow and ice on the ground and the temperature is in the 20’s. Don’t let that deter you though. If the weather is against you, there’s always a more convenient spot to take your date, like a monument, a special park, or a personally significant spot. If you live in a warmer climate, not only is this easier but you can also swing a picnic. Bonus points if you schedule it during sunrise or sunset.

Cook Valentine’s Day Dinner Together

While cooking an entire meal for your date may be romantic, a joint cooking effort can be just as good. By spending this extra time together, you both get to see a different side to each other. When you cook an entire meal with someone, what you see is what you get. You can even go shopping for the ingredients together. This is good because you get to spend even more time together.

Go Ice Skating

Ice skating is innocent fun, which makes it great date option whether it’s a first date or an activity for a long-term couple. The best thing about ice-skating is you don’t have to know how to do it to go on an ice-skating date. If both of you know how to do it, great. You can skate circles around the new people. If not, no big deal. You’ll spend the whole time holding hands, as one person helps the other learn to skate. Tell me that’s not romantic.

Get a Massage Together

“A massage? Are you kidding me? I don’t have massage money!” Massages can be surprisingly cheap if you look in the right places. There are these magical places called “massage schools” where the students there will practice on clients for only $25-35 a person. Other places you can check out are Living Social and Groupon. These sites usually offer great deals on massages at this time of year. Typical massages last an hour and are totally worth it. The massages will leave you both feeling relaxed and pampered.

Take a Dance Class

Fellas, if there’s one thing I learned in my many years of interacting with girls and women, it’s this: they love to dance. Especially with a partner who knows how to dance. Do you even dance, bro? No? You better learn. Yes? Good, keep it up. Not only do they love it but activities that require physical contact have been shown to build a stronger emotional connection between you and the other person. Also, dancing is great exercise for those of you who don’t have a set work-out regimen. Okay, so where do you find them? Plenty of towns and cities have dance studios. These dance studios have weekly, and sometimes even daily, classes that you and your boo can attend. While these classes will most likely per $10 per class, some dance studios have membership cards that will give you a certain number of classes at a discounted price per class. Also, if you’re in a college town, these places may even give you a discount. If all else fails, go to dancing clubs! Colleges usually have multiple clubs based around dancing that give lessons to beginners. Some require dues but, compared to dance studio prices, you’ll be saving yourself a few bucks. It’s not as romantic but hey, you’re spending time with them, aren’t you?

Now that I have given a few date ideas for Valentine’s Day, go out and impress your boo!
